Special gold and silver coins created to mark Expo 2020 Dubai

The collectables are on sale now

Special coins have been created to mark the UAE hosting Expo 2020 Dubai. The commemorative gold and silver coins have been created by the Central Bank of the UAE, CBUAE and have gone on sale this week on Amazon UAE and on the New Zealand Mint’s website

The gold coin, weighing 20g, is US$2,400 (Dhs8,814) and the silver, weighing 40g, is $US189 (Dhs661).

“The issuance of the Expo 2020 coins comes as part of our efforts to perpetuate key UAE’s milestones and historical events that contribute to shaping the future of the UAE and strengthening its position globally,” said Dr. Sabri Al Azazi, Chief Operating Officer of the CBUAE.

Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director of Expo 2020 Dubai, added, “These coins embody the UAE’s commitment to host an exceptional Expo, at a time when it is more essential than ever for the world to unite to address the challenges that face us all. Their significance does not stem from their material worth, but from their symbolic value, which is undoubtedly priceless. The commemorative coins will celebrate these achievements and serve as a mark of gratitude to everyone who has worked together for the good of humanity.”

In May it was announced that Expo 2020 Dubai was to be officially postponed to allow “all participants to safely navigate the impact of COVID-19”.

The massive event will now start on October 1, 2021, and run until March 31, 2022, and will still be called Expo 2020 Dubai.
