Fines for UAE residents with expired visas waived until the end of 2020

Former residents have until December 31 to leave the country

The grace period for anyone in the UAE with an expired visa has been extended.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has announced that “all violators” in the country without a valid visa will be exempt from fines until the end of the year.

The grace period will give people time to gain a new visa or exit the country.

Residents whose visas expired before March 1 will have all fines waived if they are able to leave the country in time.

In addition, all penalties and restrictions involving Emirates IDs and work permits have also been lifted.

In other visa news, the UAE recently announced that more residents can apply for the golden visa in the country.

The ten-year visa is now available to people in more categories including ‘all doctors, engineers in the fields of computer engineering, electronics, programming, electricity and biotechnology’.

And, residents who hold degrees in specialised subjects including artificial intelligence, big data and epidemiology and viruses will also be considered.

The changes to the ten-year visas will come in to effect from December 1.
