UAE Hope Probe sends first image of Mars to Earth

Latest from the UAE Mars Mission

The UAE Hope Probe has sent its first image of Mars back to Earth since entering Martian orbit.

The UAE made history last week when the nation’s Mars Mission reached the Red Planet.

The Hope Probe, which launched in July last year, is now successfully in orbit around Mars after an exhilarating seven-month journey.

Back on Earth, messages of support poured in from across the globe and the UAE lit up red to mark the momentous occasion – the first interplanetary mission ever carried out by an Arab nation.

On to the job at hand, Hope Probe is already ticking off one of its primary tasks.

The very first visual of Mars taken by the Emirati probe has been successfully transmitted back to ground control.

The image represents another significant milestone for the UAE as it shares data collected from the surface of Mars with academic and scientific institutions and nations around the world.

The probe will gather and send back 1,000GB of crucial information to the UAE’s Science Data Centre via different ground stations spread around the world.

A variety of data collecting instruments – including The Emirates eXploration Imager, The Emirates Mars InfraRed Spectrometer, and The Emirates Mars Ultraviolet Spectrometer – will record vital pieces of info that will be shared with the scientific community.

Maybe one day we’ll all get to visit and taken our own snap.
