UAE to move to UK’s amber travel list

Passengers arriving in the UK will no longer need to isolate in government appointed hotel

The UAE is being removed from the UK’s red travel list, easing restrictions imposed on travellers touching down on British soil.

The UK Government will move the UAE to its amber travel list on Sunday August 8.

It means arrivals from any of the seven emirates will no longer have to complete a mandatory 10 day isolation period in a government-approved hotel.

UK transport secretary Grant Shapps said: “We are committed to opening up international travel safely, taking advantage of the gains we’ve made through our successful vaccination programme, helping connect families, friends and businesses around the world.

“While we must continue to be cautious, these changes reopen a range of different holiday destinations across the globe, which is good news for both the sector and travelling public.”

Health and safety protocols are still in place for the amber list, however, and a PCR test must be complete three days before travelling to the UK.

An additional test needs to be taken on or before day two, and another on day eight (at the passenger’s expense), and a 10-day quarantine will need to be completed either at home, at a friend’s or hotel of your choosing.

You do not need to quarantine or take a day eight test if you are fully vaccinated in the UK or under the UK vaccine programme overseas, under 18 on the day you arrive and a resident in the UK or in a country with a vaccination programme approved by the UK, or part of a UK-approved vaccine trial. Arrivals in the above criteria still need to take a PCR test on day two. You must have had your final dose of the vaccine at least 14 whole days before arriving in the UK.

If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days, you will need to quarantine for the whole of your stay.

You must still book your day two and day eight travel tests, even if you will no longer be in England on the dates of the tests. You only need to take the tests if you’re still in the country on those dates.
