Abu Dhabi to increase capacity at venues and events to those who are fully vaccinated

The new rules come into effect this Friday

The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has announced that as of Friday August 20 the capacity for certain activates and venues will be increased, allowing only those who have been vaccinated to enter public places.

Capacity at shopping malls, entertainment centres, cultural centres, museums, cinemas, restaurants and cafés will be increased to 80 percent – provided that all precautionary measures are followed.

Capacity in restaurants and cafés across the capital will also increase to 80 percent, allowing up to ten people to sit together per table – provided that facemasks are worn when not dining.

The capacity at health clubs, sports academies, gyms, and spas will be kept at 50 percent and, as always, anyone visiting a health club, sports academy, gym or spa must adhere to wearing facemasks and observe physical distancing.

It was also announced that the number of people allowed to attend both public and private events – including social and sports events, corporate events, and entertainment events – will be increased to 60 percent, as well as wedding halls which will allow up to 100 guests.

The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee also reiterated that entry to public places will use the green pass system – that also comes into effect on Friday August 20 – which, in short means that anyone entering a public event will be required to provide a negative PCR test received within 48 hours prior to the event – you can find out more on that here.

And one of the biggest new rules to come into effect will be the number of passengers allowed to travel in taxis.

From this coming weekend, a taxi driver can travel with up to three passengers in a five-person taxi or up to four passengers in a seven-person taxi.
