Expo 2020 Dubai countdown: One day to go

Pavilions, restaurants, live shows and more at the massive global show

Expo 2020 Dubai is the largest cultural event to ever take place in the Middle East. It’s been a UAE buzzword for the last eight years, and organisers estimate that 25 million visitors will arrive in Dubai to see it. Are you ready?

There are just seven days to go before the greatest show on earth, and we are chomping at the bit. The event we’ve all been waiting for is so close we can practically taste it.

At Expo 2020 you can expect to step into a world of innovation and entertainment across 182 awe-inspiring and memorable days from Friday October 1, 2021 to Thursday March 31, 2022. There will be up to 60 live events each day with world-class music, dance, and art, meaning you could go every day and still have something new to see.

Tickets are on sale at expo2020dubai.com, and are also available through more than 2,400 ticket resellers including Zoom. The October Pass is on sale now at a special price of Dhs95 to kick things off. Otherwise, a one day pass is Dhs95, multi-day passes for 30 consecutive days are Dhs195, and season passes with unlimited entry for six months are Dhs495.

Children younger than 18 and students holding a valid student ID from any academic institution in the world will be given free entry. Free tickets will also be available for people of determination, with their companion receiving a 50 percent discount. Visitors aged 60 and older can also enter for free.

The official song of Expo 2020 Dubai has been released. “This is Our Time” is an ode to the expo that brings together generations of Arab musical talent. It was produced by Greg Wells, a Grammy Award Winner, who also wrote the official song for the Special Olympics World Games.

Want a taste of Expo before you can walk through the gates? Unlike most of Expo 2020 Dubai’s jaw-dropping installations and attractions, Expo Lake is situated offsite. You’ll discover calm waters and an amazing design near the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa and Al Qudra Lakes. Be sure to charge your phone for a ‘gram-worthy photoshoot. Read more here.

We’re got a sneak-peek at one of the coolest attractions: Equinox. This animated sculpture harnesses zoetrope technology to create an optical illusion at the Sustainability Pavillion (Terra).

The centre of the sculpture is a giant lotus flower with an orbit of insects, spinning on a vertical axis. The petals act as shutters, animating the insects so that they appear to fly, eat and pollinate. See the sculpture here.
