Abu Dhabi taxis card payment: all about the new way to pay

The new payment method is being rolled out on a trial basis

Travelling by taxi in Abu Dhabi? Some Abu Dhabi taxis now accept card payment, making travelling across the city even easier. Hop in and get ready to zoom around.

The Abu Dhabi taxis card payment is currently on a trial basis and has been rolling out in taxis across the UAE capital, including Emirates Taxi and Arabia Taxi.

One of the best parts of living in Abu Dhabi is how easy it is to get a taxi. If you’re travelling from downtown or near any of the city’s main attractions, all you need to do is look out onto the street and you’ll soon see one rolling by.

You can also easily book a taxi with the ITC taxi app, which will assign you a driver and send you text updates as he or she approaches.

Now you can pay for some Abu Dhabi taxis with a credit or debit card as ITC rolls out a new card reader. If you get picked up by one of these taxis, all you need to do is tap your card or insert it and punch in your card pin to pay the fare.

The new card readers are part of an emirate-wide trial, which will hopefully result in more card readers in Abu Dhabi taxis soon. Keep your eyes glued to Time Out Abu Dhabi for all the updates.

For now, you’ll still need to carry cash or download the Abu Dhabi Taxi app to pay with a QR code, since Abu Dhabi taxis that accept card payment are not guaranteed.

If you’re looking to travel by bus instead of taxi, you can now get free bus rides when you recycle plastic bottles. Bus passengers gain points each time they deposit empty plastic bottles in a plastics deposit machine. The points are then compiled and added to the Hafilat Personalised Bus Card, which can then be used to pay for bus fares.

And if travelling by scooter is more your speed, there have been recent changes to which kinds of scooters are allowed in the capital. Scooters with seats have been banned, while bicycles, electronic bicycles and scooters and regular foot pedal scooters are all allowed.

First up, we’re hailing a cab to zoom into the city and make the most of our week in Abu Dhabi.
