Carrefour opens its first BIO store in the UAE

More sustainable options and a new café

Supermarket giant Carrefour has opened its first Carrefour BIO concept store at City Centre Me’aisem.

Located in Dubai Production City, the brand new BIO store aims to give consumers easier access to sustainable and eco-conscious products.

The store has been specifically designed with sustainable shopping in mind; with more than 3000 organic and health-conscious products and locally grown, hormone free produce on the shelves.

Speaking of shelves, these have been made using recycled wooden pallets. In an aim to reduce single use plastics, the store has a ‘refilling’ section where customers can bring their own vessel and refill with detergents, for example.

Barcodes and digital price tags will be accessible via WiFi as an alternative to printed paper labels that may need updating several times throughout the products lifecycle.

Supporting a farm-to-table lifestyle, Carrefour BIO promises fruit and veg from 100% organic certified farms and it even has an indoor hydroponic farm in store.

This innovative display will work in conjunction with the previously mentioned sustainable initiatives to offset the store’s carbon footprint.

Whether you’re into keto, free-from or plant-based diets, or just want to do your bit for the environment by shopping more consciously, there should be something for you.

Carrefour BIO also aims to support the community and local small businesses by showcasing artisan products from UAE based businesses in a specific part of the store.

Customers will also be able to take a break from shopping at Carrefour’s first sit-down in-store cafe.

You’ll find everything from all-day breakfasts to salads, pizzas and manakaesh.

Dubai continues to move towards becoming an increasingly sustainable and environmental consciousness society, with initiatives such as the plastic bag charges set to be introduced in July and the new Dubai-wide free, fresh water filling stations.

In line with these initiatives, Carrefour BIO will use biodegradable packaging on fresh products and use recyclable paper bags over single-use plastic bags.

For any eco-conscious and avid fresh produce shoppers, Carrefour BIO looks to be a welcome option for your weekly shop.
