Ossiano’s Grégoire Berger named the UAE’s best chef

The Atlantis The Palm restaurant announced as the highest-rated in the country

Ossiano, the award-winning seafood restaurant at Atlantis The Palm, has scooped the top gongs in the first-ever edition of the Gault&Millau UAE guide.

Executive chef Grégoire Berger was awarded the coveted title of Chef of the Year.

Renowned among Dubai foodies for his unique blend of traditional French cookery with unconventional creations, Berger rejoined Ossiano earlier this year to take the fine dining restaurant, famously located against Atlantis, The Palm’s Ambassador Lagoon aquarium, to the next level.

His 11-course degustation menu is inspired by childhood memories and life experiences, with the dishes born from real events and emotion. The ocean-themed dishes are created using ingredients sustainably sourced from the oceans or within 50km of a coastline.

Berger was named Chef of the Year at the first Gault&Millau UAE gala on Tuesday June 14, held at Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.

Ossiano was also revealed to have scored the highest rating of any eatery in the country, walking away with a three-toque status and the Restaurant of the Year gong.

A familiar name in Time Out Dubai’s Best Restaurants list, Ossiano was Highly Commended in the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards 2022.

Other Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards winners were also recognised in the first edition of the Gault&Millau UAE guide, which has launched to rate the country’s fine dining restaurants.

Armani/Ristorante at Armani Dubai, one of Time Out Dubai’s Best Italian Restaurants 2022, also won three toques, as did Al Muntaha at Burj Al Arab, one of Dubai’s longest-standing home-grown restaurants.

Trèsind Studio, which recently relocated to a brand new location on Palm Jumeirah, was awarded two toques for its endlessly creative cuisine, as was inventive Modern British restaurant folly.

Another of Dubai’s favourite home-grown restaurants, BOCA, one of Time Out Dubai’s Best European Restaurants, won two titles: Sustainable Kitchen of the Year and Sustainability Champion of the Year, given to the home-grown eatery’s founder and managing director Omar Shihab.
