Those who work Monday to Friday will not get a day off from work for Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri new year, but those who work Saturdays will.

Islamic New Year is the first day of the month of Muharram and the date marks the beginning of Islam as a community.

It is expected that the next official public holiday in the UAE will be on Saturday October 8 to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).

Right at the end of the year, there will be another public holiday —The long National Day weekend. This is the one we’re all waiting for.

We’ll celebrate Commemoration Day on Thursday December 1 and UAE National Day from Friday December 2 to Saturday December 3. To celebrate these occasions residents are usually given two days off, so there should be a four-day weekend at the start of December.
