Oman lifts all COVID-19 precautions

This means no more face masks when visiting the Sultanate

As of Sunday (May 22) the Sultanate of Oman has lifted all COVID-19 precautions in public places.

This means residents and tourists alike no longer need to wear face masks or socially distance.

Oman’s supreme committee announced the decision on the changes to Oman’s COVID-19 precautions on Sunday, along with a request that people continue to observe preventive health measures, such as wearing a mask if they have been in contact with someone with the virus.

This move comes after countries such as the UK, Norway and Denmark ditched the use of masks back in January. The USA is also free of masks and since May 16, France has been too.

Currently, the rule in the UAE is that you must wear a mask indoors but it is optional whether you wear them outside.

Restaurants are able to operate at 100 percent capacity, and though you don’t need to wear a mask when sitting down, you should when walking around the restaurant.

The Sultanate began allowing travellers from the UAE to enter from September 1, 2021. So if you’re planning a summer staycay to Oman, you can leave your face mask behind.
