What is the 1 Billion Meals initiative?

The 1 Billion Meals has been set up and organised by His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Global Initiatives (MBRGI) body.

It is the largest humanitarian initiative of its kind in the region, and aims to provide support in the form of food provision to some of the most in need groups around the world; such as women, children, refugees, displaced people and victims of disasters and crises.

How does the 1 Billion Meals initiative help those in need?

Providing humanitarian aid to those in need by collating, donating and distributing food stuffs and food parcels, the 1 Billion Meals initiative falls under the pillar of humanitarian aid and relief, which is one of the five main themes of the MBRGI.

Meals, food parcels and other food stuffs are being distributed to four under privileged countries; Lebanon, India, Jordan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. This distribution is being actioned in association with Food Banking Regional Network (FBRN) and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH).

The FBRN is responsible for distributing pantry items and long-term food items like canned goods. While the MBRCH is sharing food parcels with basic staples like flour, rice, sugar, dates and oil.

The aim of these donations and the initiative is to help those who are in need; in line with the UAE societal values of being generous, and helping those in less fortunate circumstances without discrimination of race, religion or geographical location.

How long will the 1 Billion Meals initiative run?

This charitable initiative will run for the entire month of Ramadan. Throughout April, the MBRGI will aim to provide 1 Billion Meals to the needy and underprivileged around the worth.

How can I support the 1 Billion Meals initiative?

Contributions can be made via the official website or via direct bank transfer to the campaign’s account (Emirates NBD number: AE300260001015333439802). Or donors can call the toll free number 800 9999 and make their donation over the phone.

A simple and easy text message donation has also been set up, those wishing to get involved can simply opt for a monthly subscription to donate Dhs1 a day by sending “Meal” or “وجبة” via SMS text message to 1020 (du network) or 1110 (Etisalat network)
