UAE face mask rules: dark movie theatre with red seats

UAE ends censorship for international versions of blockbuster movies

The new 21+ rating will keep films in their original state

Love yourself an international blockbuster? Or just jump at an excuse to stuff your face with a huge box of the sweet and salty stuff?

Either way, you’re going to be buzzed to hear that the UAE has added an additional age classification for movies.

So, what’s the big deal? Well, the 21+ rating has been devised by the UAE’s Media Regulatory Office so that international versions of films can be screened at your local picture house.

And that means no more missing or censored segments of films that could contain scenes at odds with the office’s previous category standards.

Of the new 21+ rating, Media Regulatory Office said on Twitter: “According to this classification, the international version of movies will be shown in cinemas, with an emphasis on the strict following of age classification standards for audience entry.”

And that means you can be sure of getting the true international cinema experience the next time to you head to the cinema.

And there are some real corkers showing right now, including the latest Spider-Man blockbuster starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. To hear what Time Out thought of the web-slinging action, click here.
