Following the postponement of events across the UAE, Time Out’s annual Music & Nightlife Awards, originally due to take place in March in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, will no longer take place this year.
In recent days and weeks, UAE authorities have taken unprecedented precautions in view of the safety of UAE citizens and residents, and of which Time Out is in full support.
Earlier in March, Time Out brands in cities around the world joined a campaign to become – just for now – Time In.
Across the UAE, the population is now being urged to practise social distancing and stay at home unless absolutely essential, and Time In (formerly Time Out) has shifted its content and messaging to help its audience stay entertained from the comfort and safety of their living rooms.
In 2019, Abu Dhabi hosted its fifth annual Music & Nightlife Awards, while the Dubai brand’s celebrated their tenth edition, marking a decade of awarding the city’s greatest bars, clubs, pubs, gigs and local artists.
Like many people and industries around the world and in this region, the individuals and places these awards recognise have been heavily impacted by the events of the past few weeks.
While there will be no awards ceremony or after-party this year, and no winners on stage, Time Out will recognise everyone nominated in 2020.
All those shortlisted will receive a Special Recognition plaque for their service to the music and nightlife industry in the UAE over the past 12 months. And when it’s safe to do so, we’ll be delivering these plaques to all our nominees.
