Ramadan in Abu Dhabi 2021: No curtains or covered dining required

Announcement made by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi

Changes are being implemented in Abu Dhabi for Ramadan, meaning that hotels and restaurants won’t have to curtain off dining areas during the day.

Ramadan is expected to begin on Monday April 12, though the exact date will be confirmed by the UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee – you can keep your eyes peeled here for updates.

And ahead of Ramadan The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has issued a circular to all Abu Dhabi hotels and tourism establishments stating the there is no need to install curtains or use covering facades to cover dining.

The circular reads: “Therefore, the establishments will be allowed to provide catering services as per usual practice during Ramadan without installing curtains or covering facades.”

In previous years, restaurants and hotels have been required to close off visible dining areas with a divider or curtain so those eating during fasting hours remain out of sight.
