JW Anderson for TopShop

British knitwear designer launches collaboration in Dubai

Since the first ever designer high-street collaboration in 2004 (Karl Lagerfeld for H&M), ‘affordable luxury’ has been the word on everyone’s lips. Real-deal luxury items are still fawned over by those with bulging wallets, but the rest of us can’t argue with great fashion at budget-friendly prices.

Though several high-street designer collaborations have not been available in UAE stores, last year both Marni and Jimmy Choo’s affordable lines for H&M were made available to the region’s designer-savvy consumers. This week, Australian-born British knitwear icon JW Anderson’s wares will land in the UAE for the first time, as his high-street tie-up with Topshop launches in The Dubai Mall. The line features quirky sweaters, trench coats and patterned pyjama-style slacks (unfortunately the accessories are not available in the UAE).

‘I want people to have a connection to it: I wanted to construct a collection that would appeal to all women and girls. It had to be quite iconic to appeal to any age demographic,’ says Anderson. Here, he takes us through some of his key pieces.
