Top sports podcasts to listen to in the UAE

Light-hearted podcasts, living legends discussing their best moments and more

If you’re a sports fan, we’re sure by now you’re missing your weekly (if not daily) fix of sporting fixtures from across the world – whether it be football, rugby or tennis or just hearing the in-depth conversations between current and former professionals debating on what teams could have done better to come out as the victor.

Although games may have come to a halt, a lot of your favourite commentators and presenters are still sharing their extensive knowledge over podcasts.

From those that will have you hooting with laughter to pods starring living legends discussing their best moments in sports, we’ve rounded up some of the best sports podcasts available on Apple Podcasts to get into now.

‎The Sky Sports Football Podcast

Hated by almost all football fans across the UK (other than Manchester United supporters…), when the news broke that Gary Neville would be a regular commentator and presenter for Sky Sports, most assumed it wouldn’t last much longer than his managerial career.

However, since joining Sky Sports it’s safe to say that he’s now a firm favourite with almost all football fans thanks to his unbiased straight-talking analysis on teams in the Premier League.

In 2018, Sky Sports launched its very own podcast with other regulars including Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp, where they discuss everything from major talking points within football to post-match analyses. And fortunately for us, they’re able to continue their discussions while we’re all in lockdown bringing us new material at least twice a week to keep us busy and up to speed with all the latest football news.

BBC Radio Five Live – Replay

Long-running BBC radio and television presenter Colin Murray looks back on classic sporting moments in history by sharing archived interviews with sporting heavyweights (both past and present) such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Muhammad Ali and Fred Perry. Despite the podcast ending in 2019, these snippets are still available on Apple Podcasts and give a great insight in to how the mind of a top sporting professional works.

Joe Rogan MMA Show

Comedian and UFC commentator Joe Rogan has fast become one of the biggest – if not the biggest – podcasters out there and attracts millions of listeners and watchers on YouTube to his weekly podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.

Rogan also launched a podcast series, the MMA Show, which focuses mainly on Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) where he interviews some of the top fighters for two to three hours plus about anything from their training routines to their favourite knockouts of all time. Although the main focus here is MMA, you’ll also find in-depth conversation with other fighters such as top boxers Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury.

Beyond The Grid, The F1 Podcast

This weekly F1 podcast brings you unique and personal conversations with the biggest names in motorsports, from current superstars such Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo to leading team bosses and legendary figures from history.

Whether you’re an avid F1 fan or just want to learn more about the sport from the people who know it best, this makes for a great listen.

That Peter Crouch Podcast

That’s right, we’re passing the pod. If you’re looking for a good laugh and want to hear the funnier side of playing professional football, then look no further than Peter Crouch’s podcast.

Crouchie discusses more jovial topics within sports pranks players play on each other at the training ground, and ponders the realisation that referees are actually people off the pitch.

We generally only learn about football stars in small snippets before or after games, so hearing what they get up to outside of sports and the funnier side of things is a welcomed change. Crouchie and co are always back stronger.

House of Rugby

Ex-England flanker James Haskell has always split opinions with people. A bit like Marmite, people either love him or loathe him, which makes his podcast all the more interesting.

You can learn about his early playing days to his more recent career updates, trying his hand at MMA fighting and more. With regular guests from the rugby world it’s a fun listen, hearing his and his guests opinions on the state of rugby union, as well as entertaining anecdotes in and outside of good old ruggers.

The Tennis Podcast

With Wimbledon 2020 being cancelled and no set date on when we’ll next see our favourite tennis stars on the court, we would highly recommend giving this one a listen to learn about current topics in the world of tennis. You can expect big name guests in this podcast, as well as discussions regarding interesting issues like how lesser known players outside of the top 100 deal with the mental and financial challenges they face without being able to compete.
