You know what they say: New year, new you. And this might seem like we’re jumping the gun slightly but if you want to really kick next year off by doing something you never ever thought you would be brave enough to, you can take on the extremely tough (but hugely fun) Spartan Race 2020 at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah.
That’s right, one of the world’s hardest and most popular obstacle races is taking place at the UAE’s highest peak. Good luck climbing that, Spartans.
Taking place on January 31 from 7am onwards, the big course will be divided into various race categories, including the Sprint, Super, Hurricane Heat and one for the kids.
The Spartan Super Sprint will be set over 5km, with 20 of the race’s signature obstacles to conquer. Perfect for runners of any level, it may be the shortest, but packs in the most challenges to overcome.
As for the Spartan Super, expect a 10km distance with more than 25 Signature Spartan Obstacles, all through tougher and more rugged terrain.
Up for a whirlwind of exercise? The Hurricane Heat is a very unique event, which will see Spartans running both on and off the race course.
All participants will be assigned a team upon arrival and will be expected to work together to complete any (and all) challenges set before them.
Teamwork pays off, as you can’t finish alone. There are no timing chips, no clock, just a fun run Spartan-style. And burpees, lots of burpees apparently.
You must be 18 or older to participate in any of the races, but children aged four to 14 can have a go at a special Spartan Kids course.
The 3.4km race contains up to 14 obstacles, and youngsters are expected to jump, run and get very muddy (just be prepared for the huge washing load afterwards).
