Best places to run in Abu Dhabi

Lace up those trainers and get the playlist on, it’s running time

Al Wathba Cycle Track

Despite its moniker, you can create your own desert run here, too. There are circuits for 8km, 16km, 20km, 22km and 30km, so you can stretch your legs for as long as they will carry you. The great thing about this location is that you get all the beauty and sense of running through the dunes but actually speed along on a flat, safe and well-maintained road.
Pit stop: Bring your water bottle – there aren’t many places to pull up here.

Reem Island

This place is popular for runners with its long stretches of pathways that can help rack up a decent dis-tance. Dotted along the way at the Mangroves, Reem Central Park, Al Fay Park and other areas are level running tracks, and your joints will thank you for the softer, more absorbent surface underfoot. You can’t miss them, they’re bright blue or green. Even if you’re not much of a jogger, these are good for a power walk, too.
Pit stop: Al Fay Park, for a quick spot of table tennis or a kick-about.

Yas Marina Circuit

There aren’t many cooler places to head out for a run than Yas Marina Circuit and with a 5.55km track it’s easy to keep tabs on your distance and set yourself a goal. Plus, if you can resist the temptation to stop and take selfies at points around the track, you can get a serious workout as well. Just watch out for those cyclists as they whizz by.
Pit stop: How about the pit lane? That’s a pretty cool place to rehydrate.
Yas Island.

Zayed Sports City

This huge sports complex has loads of great places for a jog, as well as a dedicated running track where you can channel your inner Usain Bolt. Away from the track the complex has quite some acreage so you can do several laps or create your own route to achieve your desired distance and goals.
Pit stop: The Sportsman’s Arms, what? There’s a game on and you don’t want to miss it
Zayed Sports City.
