Diamond Micro-Dermabrasion
Having suffered from a couple of months of bad skin due to lifestyle changes, some seriously full on A/C and a change of climate, we were delighted to be trying out Silkor’s Diamond Micro-Dermabrasion treatment. We trotted on down to see the very lovely and talented beauty therapist Kerry, at Silkor Abu Dhabi. The non-invasive treatment is commonly used for facial rejuvenation and removes the dead and damaged surface layer of skin cells to reveal healthier new skin cells underneath. The whole process is designed to stimulate the deeper dermal layer of skin to produce more collagen and elastin, giving the skin a younger, firmer and more-supple appearance. On top of all this, it apparently refines pores, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduces age spots and pigmentation as well as a whole host of other wonderful things to make your skin look renewed and refreshed.
The treatment step by step
We were ushered into a lovely white treatment room and Kerry asked what skin concerns we had. She then had a really close look at our face and at what sort of condition our skin was in. We explained that our skin is very sensitive and that we had concerns about it reacting. What we loved about Kerry (and what any good therapist should provide as part of their service) is that she gave us a full rundown of the treatment and did a test on our hand before starting on our face. This put our mind at ease instantly and any apprehension we were feeling was gone.
The treatment started with the diamond encrusted tipped wand being gently rubbed all over our face and neck. This process doesn’t hurt at all and acts sort of as a vacuum, removing dead skin cells and blackheads. Once this part of the treatment was finished (which only took about ten minutes) we were shown the small circular disposable disc that is inside the wand and what had been removed from our face. While the idea of seeing this is a bit grim, it is good to see that the treatment actually works in terms of removing gunk from your face. A hydrating and soothing facial followed, allowing lots of moisture to soak into the new skin. This was a very welcome and refreshing experience and even after about an hour our skin was glowing.
Pros
Kerry was super professional and really knew what she was talking about. This is an excellent treatment for your skin, helping in many ways such as reducing fine lines, removing blackheads, reducing the appearance of large pores and improving the overall appearance of the skin’s texture and look.
Cons
Our skin was a little bit red after the treatment, but altogether it is not too bad. If you are heading out afterwards or back to the office it is recommended that you take some make up with you to cover up any redness. The treatment isn’t cheap and they do recommend ten sessions in total, so while it is a worthwhile process you will need to invest a fair sum of money to have this done.
The verdict
Once the little amount of redness has disappeared we were astonished at how smooth our face was. It takes about a week for it to properly settle down after the treatment, but the results really are amazing. Our complexion is smoother, clearer, fine lines have been diminished and the few pimples that we had have really settled down.
