Combat dry, lacklustre hair at these Abu Dhabi salons

We all know too well how the water and climate here can wreak havoc on your hair. Dryness in particular is a common issue because the ever-present air-conditioning can really dehydrate your tresses. With that in mind, we put out an SOS and tried some different treatments.

Kerastase Nutri

Thermique Ritual
When we entered Hairworks salon, our locks were in quite a state. To say that our hair is dry is the understatement of the year. It feels like straw and the ends are so brittle wer feat they might snap off. The very talented Mary-Anne assessed our hair before deciding on the Kerastase Nutri Thermique In-salon Ritual. This treatment is designed to help very dry, sensitized hair with brittle ends.

Our hair was washed with Kerastase shampoo and conditioner before the treatment was applied, section by section, with Mary-Anne paying particular attention to thoroughly coating the ends. It was left on for about 15 minutes and then rinsed off. This treatment is aided by heat, so Mary-Anne recommended a blow-dry which was a welcome treat for our usually unruly hair.

The verdict:
Our hair felt so soft again and it had shine, which is quite hard to achieve sometimes with coloured blonde hair. It didn’t weigh our hair down at all, instead it felt supple and healthy with a lovely bounce to it as well as looking and feeling really nourished. This was an intense and worthwhile treatment that we thought was worth the cost.
Kerastase Nutri Thermique costs Dhs300 plus Dhs150 for the blow-dry. Hairworks, 2nd floor of Spinneys Khalidiya (02 681 6678).

L’Oreal Power Dose

Hair Treatment
Sisters Beauty Lounge is known for its hair treatments, so that’s where we headed to for the next one, excited at the thought of stepping out with shiny locks. The lovely and very professional Me-Ann first assessed our hair to decide which treatment would work best. She looked closely at the strands and then took a look at our scalp. We have coloured hair that is quite dry, and because we are a slave to our straightening iron it is also prone to breakage. Me-Ann suggested L’Oreal Power Dose to improve the hair health and to stop it from breaking. Me-Ann told us that the treatment repairs hair from the inside out and will give it more life.

After our hair was thoroughly washed, the product was put through and then we sat and relaxed for five minutes while Me-Ann did an amazing job of massaging the treatment into our hair and scalp. We then sat under the steamy heat machine for five more minutes so that the heat could lock the treatment in further. The treatment was then washed off and already we could feel a difference in our hair.

The verdict:
The process is quick. It only took about 15 minutes, and yet you can see the results instantly. Our hair is soft, shiny and manageable. This would be a great treatment to add on to a cut and colour when you are already visiting the salon and is excellent value for money.
L’Oreal Power Dose Hair Treatment cost Dhs75. Sisters Beauty Lounge, Al Bateen (02 222 2501).

Icon Blend Cocktail
We went to Bellacure nails for this one – don’t be fooled by the name, they are experts in doing nails but also specialise in other treatments like hair, facials, spray tanning, waxing and massage.
Our hair was washed with the Icon Detox range of products, which are great for stimulating healthy hair growth. The peppermint scent of the shampoo was just divine and we were already super relaxed before the actual treatment had even started. We were talked through the process and informed that the ‘cocktail’ is a blend of aloe, shea butter and oils designed to penetrate the hair shaft to help to reconstruct and rebuild it.

This treatment is also designed to undo damage done by colouring your hair, along with environmental elements like sun and wind (perfect for us here in Abu Dhabi). The mixture was heated up in an oil burner and was then worked through our hair in sections. The warm mixture felt amazing on our scalp and the combination of the three scents was lovely. It was left on for about 15 minutes so it could be properly absorbed. Then it was rinsed out and the Icon Detox conditioner was put through our hair, and this final product smelled just as lovely as the earlier shampoo did.

The verdict:
This treatment was really hydrating, which can be a difficult task when your hair is coloured regularly. Again, the treatment is quite quick and the experience of having this done was pleasurable and relaxing. We could really feel the difference in the strength of our hair and it looked really healthy. Highly recommended.
Icon Blend treatment costs Dhs200 for short hair, Dhs250 for medium hair and Dhs300+ for long hair. Bellacure Nails, Al Mamoura (02 658 4100).
