Angela Beitz tries the Deluxe Facial at Zen the Spa to achieve a new complexion of healthy, glowing skin.
The promise
A luxurious facial that will deep cleanse the skin to get rid of impurities and hydrate with different masks, to restore moisture levels and reveal a glowing complexion. The aim of the spa, so it says, is to provide each guest with some ‘Me’ time, to rebalance and rejuvenate, allowing them the opportunity to be transported away from their busy, everyday lives into a state of tranquillity and calm.
Step-by-step
Zen the Spa is located at The Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi in Tourist Club Area, down a double spiral staircase leading to underneath the main part of the hotel. We change into a robe and pop on our slippers and are then ushered to the treatment room by our friendly therapist.
All of Zen’s facials are holistic and don’t use steaming or extractions, but simply let the products work for themselves. Additionally, Zen uses products from UK brand Aromatherapy Associates, which are natural, plant-based and are one of TOAD’s favourites because we have sensitive skin and the products are effective but gentle. Our therapist selects the Balance range for us, which was suitable for our combination skin.
A heat pack is placed under our neck and works wonders for our tense shoulders. Our skin is double cleansed to thoroughly remove impurities. The cleansing is followed by multiple exfoliations and toners to remove dead cells and leave the skin smooth.
Two different masks were applied, one to unclog pores and the second to hydrate. A hydrating eye mask was also put on and we were left to relax while a head massage soothed us and nearly put us to sleep.
The results
Our skin is fresh and glowing and we notice that the fine lines we had are now not as noticeable. Our skin stays like this for a good couple of days and it’s much easier to apply make-up.
Pros
The spa is very relaxing and it feels like a great escape from our busy workday. Staff are super friendly, very talented and really know which products will work for your skin type so the facials seem very tailored.
Cons
The treatment is holistic, so if you prefer extractions this isn’t for you, but we felt the products did work to release stubborn dirt.
