Abu Dhabi’s TriYAS Challenge returns for 2021

The Yas Marina Circuit triathlon is now open for registration

Pushing swimming, cycling and running to the max, TriYas Challenge will make a comeback in 2021.

The intense physical challenge will take place at Yas Marina Circuit on Friday February 12.

Now in its 11th year, TriYAS attracts local, regional and international competitors from all ages and abilities to Abu Dhabi as they come together to undertake a gruelling physical test made up of three elements – swimming, cycling and running.

There are nine separate categories at this year’s event, including the brand-new duathlon sprint, which involves a 5km run and a 21km bike ride, before concluding with another run, this time over a 2.5km distance. TRIKids also returns for 2021 with two categories, involving a 200-metre swim, 9.9km bike ride and 2.5km run.

The TriWithRio element of the event will also be taking place, giving participants an opportunity to complete the challenge alongside team angel wolf, led by Nick Watson and his son Rio, who suffers from Q44 deletion de novo, a condition which means the teenager struggles to walk and can only communicate using sign language.

Members of the local community can join the team out on the circuit for various stages of the triathlon, while also having the opportunity to push Rio for part of the distance.

Sponsored by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, National Ambulance and Al Ain Water, there will be three separate pricing windows for this year’s event, the first of which runs until December 31, the second between January 1 and January 31 and the final price bracket from February 1 until February 12.

Those participants wishing to sign up for the sprint or Olympic events can secure a spot for Dhs300 by registering before December 31.
