The FINA World Swimming Championships 2021 are coming to Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena this December.
Splashing down between Thursday December 16 and Tuesday December 21, it will be one of the very first international sporting events to be held at Yas Island’s state-of-the-art Etihad Arena.
Bringing some of the world’s most talented short-course swimmers to the capital, the FINA World Swimming Championships have previously been held in Dubai and Doha, and will give swimming fans here in the UAE the chance to watch top-quality competitive swimming action in the heart of the capital.
Promising to be a swimming extravaganza, the tournament will feature men’s and women’s events in all four strokes – freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly – along with the individual medley and relays, while the FINA World Aquatics Convention will also be hosted on Yas Island in parallel.
“This is set to be a huge event for Yas Island, Abu Dhabi and the UAE, with over 1,000 of the most talented short-course swimmers from around the world, fresh from the Olympic Games in Tokyo, showcasing their abilities in what we expect to be an exciting competition,” said His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
“This World Championship event will further strengthen the emirate’s unique sporting offering, enhancing its reputation as a top global destination for sport, entertainment, leisure and business.”
And not just for swimming fans, there’s also set to be a “Market Street” with top-notch entertainment, family-friendly activities, cultural experiences, and food and beverage outlets for everybody to enjoy.
