A free environmental film festival is coming to Abu Dhabi in February

Film screenings, talks, workshops and more

As we head into a new decade it’s about time that we all consider our environmental impact a little more and take responsibility for the safety of the planet.

We’re making steps towards more eco-friendly ways of living with the reduction of single use plastics, the introduction of electric vehicles and reducing our consumption of red meat.

If you’re an eco-warrior and have an interest in helping the environment then a new event set to take place next month is worth knowing about.

The inaugural Al Sidr Environmental Film Festival, organised by Zayed University and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD ), is set to be held at Manarat Al Saadiyat from February 6 to 8.

At the festival, which is free to attend, you can watch a series of films that explore environmental issues, attend talks with environmental activists, workshops and events focused on the topic of waste.

Films being shown at the first of its kind event include Albatross, The Story of Plastic and the award winning documentary Youth Unstoppable.

A number of issues will be the focus across the event including environmental issues, from climate change to single-use plastics, e-waste and food waste.

“We aim through the Al Sidr Environmental Film Festival to highlight crucial environmental issues from different points of view to inspire and motivate audiences to better understand the threats and challenges that our planet faces,” said Khansa Al Blouki, director of environmental outreach at EAD.

“The focus of this year’s festival is on waste and its impact on the environment as it is considered one of the main environmental challenges that require public awareness.

“We aim to change that awareness into positive and sustainable behaviour leading to conserving the environment and achieving the goals put forth by our leaders to ensure a sustainable future for us and future generations”.

We look forward to checking it out next month.
