Chris de Burgh and UB40 performing for free at Expo 2020 Dubai in March

Music icons of the 1980s to play live gigs this weekend

Chris de Burgh and UB40 are coming to Expo 2020 Dubai for a free concert. Are you ready to groove ’80s style?

After the massive success of the Black Eyed Peas and of course, Coldplay, Expo visitors will be delighted with the announcement of additional music legends hitting various stages this March around the Expo 2020 campus as part of the Expo Street Music series. Admission to the concerts is free with an Expo 2020 ticket and is on a first come, first served basis.

To whet the appetite, Chris de Burgh, the Argentinian-born Irish crooner will hit the stage just ahead of St. Patrick’s Day. The world renowned singer-songwriter will perform a one-off set at Sustainability Welcome Plaza on Friday March 11 at 9.30pm.

Finding fame in the 1980s, de Burgh’s concert will be an unadulterated night of excellent eighties music. Fans can expect to hear oldies-but-goodies like Lady in Red, Don’t Pay the Ferryman and Missing You. Indulge yourself in some of the best music of the 1980s during this hour-and-a-half set; you won’t be able to help yourself from swaying along to these musical greats.

Expect another healthy dose of the ultimate nostalgic vibes as British reggae band UB40 come to Expo 2020. Get the vocal chords ready, this will be a Sunday session like no other as these chart toppers headline at Expo Street Music.

On Saturday March 12, head to Al Wasl Avenue, grab your other half or best friend and sing along to UB40’s greatest hits like I Got You Babe and I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You. No need to fret, UB40 will play two nights at Expo 2020; on Sunday March 13, you’ll also be able to catch the guys on stage from 8pm at Festival Garden.

Not only can visitors experience these musical legends in person on the ground at Expo 2020, you can even tune in at home and stream the shows live in your living room – for free. If you didn’t already know, you can experience a lot of Expo 2020 virtually.

As expected, the team behind Expo 2020 still have a few aces up their sleeves for the coming weeks. With just 23 days until the end of Expo 2020, we already have so many fond memories. Let’s not dwell on the end and focus on the now – there is still so much to see and do at Expo 2020 before March 31.
