Dine in luxury under the desert stars

Sonara Camp has opened a second location at RAK’s Al Wadi Nature Reserve in the grounds of The Ritz Carlton Al Wadi and it’s really rather special. Fairy light twinkle overhead, the desert location feels wonderfully remote – herds of oryx and gazelle wander freely, the starry night sky is a sight to behold – and the seasonal menu has plenty of promise, with on-trend options such as chicken fajita tacos, slow-cooked pulled lamb and roasted cauliflower with tahini dressing.

Embrace Santorini vibes at Banan Beach

A change of emirate has only made Grecian-style hotspot Banan Tree more appealing. Now boasting a beachside location on Al Marjan Island, the camping resort has gone all rustic beach chic with eco-friendly, distressed wood loft tents, upcycled furniture, bonfires at sunset, an outdoor cinema, bevy of infinity pools and a barbecue area. We like it. A lot.

Enjoy amazing art and culture (for free)

Back for another year and bigger and better than ever before, the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival is marking its centenary in impressive style. The theme of this year’s exhibition is “The Journey” and will see some 150 contemporary artists from 45 countries exhibiting their work at the historic Al Jazirah Al Hamra Heritage Village, with satellite exhibitions held at Jebel Jais and Al Marjan Island. As well as art, photography and sculpture exhibitions, a number of film screenings, workshops and guided tours will also take place throughout the emirate.

Take in the spectacular views from 1484 by Puro’s terrace

Perched atop the UAE’s highest mountain some 1,484 metres above sea level a meal at Puro has always been memorable. The opening of open-air rooftop lounge The View by 1484 with its panoramic vistas over the Jebel Jais canyons has rather taken things up a notch though. Add a meal here to your RAK bucket list post haste.

Test your nerve on the Jais Sledder

The latest addition to the list of high-octane, adrenalin-fuelled activities at Jebel Jais invites daredevils to hurtle down the UAE’s highest mountain peak in a summer sledge. Covering some 1,885 metres (hairpin bends included) and taking seven minutes in total to complete, you can embark on the toboggan-style experience solo or go tandem with a friend.

Watch the Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital

The UAE’s golf fiends are having quite the time of it of late. Following the conclusion of the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic 2022 on the 30th January, the famed Middle East Swing rolls into RAK, as the emirate hosts a European Tour event for the first time. From February 3rd – 6th expect to see some of the world’s top golfers battling it out for glory – and a shot at the USD$2 million prize money – on Al Hamra Golf Club’s par 72 championship course.

Treat the family to a staycay at Hampton by Hilton Marjan Island

The largest Hampton by Hilton hotel in the world has a whole lot going for it, not least a vast swimming pool with cascading infinity edge, expansive stretch of private white sand, a seven-treatment room spa, kid’s club and splash pad and the appealing option to go all inclusive. For a properly claw-some feast of a meal, do have dinner at American seafood shack CLAW BBQ.
