Pet adoption in Abu Dhabi

Cat, dogs and horse rescue centres in the capital

Take someone furry home

Whether you fancy giving some time to walking dogs, donating financially towards food and equipment or giving a cat a new home, there are plenty of places where you can get involved with animals in the city.
But if you’re thinking of adopting, remember: they’ve been abandoned before and won’t want to be again!

Cats and dogs
Animal Action is a charity established by Melanie Stones that rescues and homes stray and abandoned pets in Abu Dhabi. Melanie is always looking for volunteers, donations and foster homes for the animals in her care.
If you’re interested contact Melanie at animal.action@hotmail.com.

Horse rescue
Situated between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the Dhabian horse riding centre takes in the equine waifs and strays of the UAE. Run by Tina Al Qubais, the centre has rehabilitated over 15 horses and ponies to date. Contact Tina if you would like to join the centre for polo-cross, beach rides, lessons or assisting her.

There are also various ads on Dubizzle for animals needing re-homing direct from the owner. This way you can see the home environment and ask questions about the animal before taking on the responsibility.

Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter
Concerned by the amount of abandoned animals in Abu Dhabi, the government established this shelter to house, neuter and supervise the re-homing of Abu Dhabi’s strays. The centre encourages residents to get involved. So whether you can give some time to walk the dogs, donate financially towards food and equipment or give a cat or dog a foster or new home, you are welcome to participate.
