What you need to know about getting the Microsoft Surface Duo in the UAE

Here’s what’s on offer with this new phone

What, still jolted by the fact Microsoft has returned to making phones? And it’s immediately delved into the dual-screen market? Preposterous, but joining up with its once (overwhelming) rival Google Android to create its blend of mini-computer and smartphone may see Microsoft slowly ascend to the titans of the phone market.

Essentially, it’s like two smartphones slapped together. In seriousness, it’s a nifty device that can actually slide in pockets – unlike some other dual-faced devices we know of – turn into a single-screened tablet, become a dual-screen multi-tasker and even a double-sided phone. And it’s all because of a simple, and hopefully not so flimsy, 360-degree hinge.

What does it bring that we don’t already have in our pockets?
Do you have the power of gaming in your pocket? Sure, but the power for next generation gaming? With Microsoft pushing the hype around ‘Project xCloud’ – you know, the possible cloud gaming fad that lets gamers play everything from Halo to Call of Duty on any device – the Duo is looking like a prime device for portable play. With two 5.6-inch displays that fold out into an 8.3-inch overall screen, one screen could act as the game while the other could be the controls. Triple A games on just a 4.8mm thin device? Yes please

When will it drop?
Microsoft states that we’ll get our hands on it by the ‘holiday season’ in 2020. Fingers crossed for it to be under the tree…

Final words?
Dual-screens are back in fashion, geeks. Get with it or go back to your “so 2018” phones.
