Exotic ways to travel in Abu Dhabi

Why not splash out and book a helicopter to work?

Catch a catamaran
If you’re in a rush to make that crucial 9am meeting on Sunday morning, then this one might not be for you. But for those with a little more time on their hands, some nautical spirit and access to a handily placed marina near the office, why not consider sailing your way to work. Sure, the open waves aren’t often the first route that most consider when thinking about how to avoid the early morning rush, but don’t forget that Abu Dhabi’s topography isn’t like many other places in the world. With so much coastline, why not add the sea to your list of potential highways to your desk.

Belevari Marine Charter offer a host of different options for getting from A to B via sea. Opt for the catamaran charter at Dhs3,500 an hour if you want to get some work done on your way in without soaking your laptop.

Take a limo
If you’re the sort of ostentatious person who likes to rock up to an event or party and be the centre of attention from the very beginning then, unsurprisingly, Abu Dhabi can happily accommodate your ego (all you need are reasonably deep pockets). A black Hummer VIP with space for 20 passengers won’t fail to catch the eye of everyone around you, and can be hired at a per-hour rate from Abu Dhabi Luxury Limosine. Options are available for slightly lower budgets, but if recent reports of parents sending their children to school in super-luxe limos is to believed, cost really doesn’t come into this particular extravagance.

Book a helicopter
If Rotana Jet or a taxi to your meeting in Dubai isn’t quite luxurious enough, you have one more option: fly the people you’re meeting with down by helicopter. Heli Dubai not only does sightseeing tours around Dubai, you can also book one of its helicopters for business meetings in between Abu Dhabi and the neighbouring emirate. So if you want to get a twin engine chopper to bring your meeting to you, it’ll set you back a whopping Dhs15,011 to book the 90-minute flight (and you can only book return flights). You’ll also have to fork out another Dh2,020 just to land. Oh, and they only land at Emirates Palace Hotel.
