Chef Studio 2021: Unmissable talks and demos

Ready to learn something new? Chef Studio is returning to The Galleria Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, and there’s absolutely loads to get involved with. From cooking classes to kids’ workshops, there’s heaps to keep you occupied.

Time Out Abu Dhabi has teamed up with The Galleria to lay the pop-up culinary school for 2021, and you’re not going to want to miss a minute.

It all starts this Thursday (May 13) in Central Kitchens on Level 3 of The Galleria, and activities run all the way through until Saturday May 22.

Classes focus on everything from tacos to cupcakes – so if you want to get involved click here to see what’s on offer.

Also just announced are two new classes for Thursday May 13. Head along at 1pm for a class with Kobashi. Chef Arlene will be teaching you how to make one of the Japanese restaurant’s signature dishes, so get in quick.

And at 7pm there will be a class from chef Raj Dagstani from Marmellata, who’ll be showing you how to make a fantastic focaccia with caponata.

But it’s not just about the cooking classes – there are loads of exciting talks and demos to check out too. Plus Magic Phil is coming to town, so there’s plenty of fun for all the family.

Magic Phil

Gather the gang as you’re not going to want to miss this one. Magic Phil is in Abu Dhabi this week and he’s laying on two very special storytimes for kids.

The Time Out UAE Kids’ columnist will be hosting food-themed storytimes as part of Chef Studio at The Galleria on both Friday May 14 and Friday May 21.

The British entertainer is also known for his daily Children’s Radio show ‘The Laughternoon Drive’ and has also been see on Nickelodeon and OSN. Not only that, Magic Phil is also a children’s author. His debut book, The Dog That Loves Blue, sold more than 4,000 copies, and he has just published his second children’s book The Camel That Loves Red.

As part of his Chef Studio appearance he will be showing off his hilarious magic show to kids in the capital – so get ready for non-stop fun and silliness. He’ll also be reading stories including The Tiger Who Came To Tea, Kitchen Disco Charlie and Lola. Plus, no show is complete with some food related magic, of course.

Thermomix

Billed as “the smallest, smartest kitchen in the world” the team at German company Thermomix is here to show you how to whip up a storm in your own kitchen.

Thermomix does the job of more than 20 machines in the kitchen, so you can be sure you’re saving yourself time and money when you use one of these.

This ultimate kitchen appliance allows you to cook, steam, cut, mill, mix, emulsify, knead, chop, whip, purée, control the temperature, grind, blend, weigh, slow cook, sous vide and re-heat food.

But that’s not all. It can even be used as a rice cooker, egg boiler and kettle. And everything is done with just one bowl and one bowl.

And to show you how cooking from scratch just got a whole lot easier, the team is hosting a special talk to show how the machine works – and you’ll even get a chance to give it a go.

The company is giving at product demo at 1pm on Friday May 14. The talk, titled “How the Thermomix has become a mealtime game-changer”, so get ready to revolutionise your home-cooking routine.

Madar Farms

This home-grown local company will be taking to the stage on Wednesday May 19 at 1.30pm for a special talk on how to pick clean ingredients for when you’re cooking at home.

Madar Farms uses AgTech (agricultural technology) to help tackle food and water security challenges in the region, and prides itself on sustainability.

It grows high-quality, fresh, local produce – and aims to educate and empower the community by teaching them the “how” and “why” of AgTech.

Madar Farms grows microgreens including pea shoots, arugula, beetroot, garden peas, spicy radish, amaranth, purple shisho and more at its UAE farms. It also grows a range of lettuce and salad and prides itself on the fact the greens are pesticide free, have a longer shelf life than average and are grown and packed locally.
