What we know about UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi so far

Fights have been confirmed and tickets are nearly gone

If you haven’t heard about UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi then what have you been doing for the past few weeks?

Thanks to a new partnership between UFC and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCTA), more UFC events will be held in the capital over the next five years.

Each event held in the capital will feature at least one championship match and it all starts with UFC 242 on September 7 on Yas Island.

Demand for tickets has been high and there aren’t any available on ticketmaster.ae – however, the event is yet to be declared a sell-out.

So what do we know about UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi so far?

Last week, it was announced UFC lightweight-champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will make his return to the sport in Abu Dhabi to take on Dustin Poirier.

This is the first fight back for Khabib since serving a ban following a bust-up after he defeated Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in October last year.

That’s not the only fight confirmed for the night though, in fact seven more bouts have been confirmed to be spread across the undercard and the main card.

So far confirmed fights include, Shamil Abdurakhimov vs Curtis Blaydes, Islam Makhachev vs Davi Ramos, Diego Ferreira vs Mairbek Taisumov, Belal Muhammad vs Takashi Sato, Ottman Azaitar vs Teemu Packalen, Bruno Silva vs Khalid Taha and Muslim Salikhov vs Nordine Taleb.

More fights and details will be announced in the coming weeks and we’ll keep you posted during the countdown to fight night.
