A cat movie festival is coming to the UAE

Cinema Akil is running CATVIDEOFEST for a full weekend

Yes, they’re the animal kingdom’s most lovable enigma, but this special weekend at Cinema Akil can help us understand the aloof beasts.

The city’s independent cinema in Alserkal Avenue is celebrating the balls of fluff with its CATVIDEOFEST weekend. So, if you like cats, this one is for you.

Taking place from Friday August 9 until Saturday August 10, it kicks off with a compilation reel of the latest, best cat videos put together from unique submissions and sourced animations, music videos, and, of course, classic internet videos.

Cinema Akil has also gathered four of the best feline-related movies for the weekend, including hit 2016 documentary Kedi, that tells the story Istanbul’s relationship with cats that have wondered freely around the city for thousands of years.

There’s also the animated A Cat in Paris about Zoe, a little girl living in the French capital, who gets involved with a group of gangsters. It’s up to her cat Dino to come to her rescue – as any good pet would…

Amid others, there’s the heartfelt and hilarious Japanese drama Rent-A-Cat, about a single woman who runs a rent-a-cat service to give companions for lonely people.

Fan of a roar rather than a meow? The Lion King is out in cinemas, and we’ve got our thoughts on it before you check it out right here. It also lit up the Burj Khalifa last week, and it was magnificent.
