New Abu Dhabi music school to offer unique courses and experiences

Courses in DJing, turntabalism and more are coming to town

A world-famous American music and performing arts institution is set to open in Abu Dhabi.

Berklee Abu Dhabi will open on Saadiyat Island at the UAE pavilion building adjacent to Manarat Al Saadiayat after an agreement was reached between Berklee College of Music and The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

The new Abu Dhabi institution will develop and deliver workshops, masterclasses, courses and stage performances throughout the year.

Berklee Abu Dhabi is set to launch in February with the first semester running until May.

In addition, a new scholarship fund will search for local talent that will be offered the chance to pursue studies in the United States and Europe.

The newly refurbished facility on Saadiyat Island includes a performance space, recording studio, practice rooms, ensemble rooms, office space and a tech lab.

A host of programmes will be run at the new facility for local and regional students covering a range of subjects and topics including DJing, Turntablism, Songwriting, Music Production, Dance, Contemporary String Techniques, Music Business, Recording and Mixing, the Music of the Middle East, and Creative Entrepreneurship and more.

“This close partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi provides us with a connection to one of the most culturally diverse and historically rich parts of the world, and to the vitality and forward-thinking vision of Abu Dhabi,” said Berklee President, Roger H. Brown.

“Together, we will create artistic access and opportunity for young performers in the Middle East and North Africa.

“We are thrilled to provide this creative education through the cutting-edge teaching of music, dance, and theater. We believe we can have a positive impact on the future of music and dance in the region and around the world.”
