New documentary about jiu-jitsu in the UAE to be screened on Zoom

It’s part of The Art of Cultural Diplomacy series

A documentary about the Emirati jiu-jitsu scene is being screened tonight (Wednesday September 30).

The 80-minute film Botoula shows the rise of the sport in the UAE and will be followed by a discussion between HE Hanan Al Aleeli, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Latvia, Mansour Al Dhaheri, board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Alma Al Mubarak, head of public diplomacy initiatives at Image Nation.

Botoula, meaning championship, follows an emerging generation of young fighters as they battle their way through regionals in the UAE to the World Pro competition in Abu Dhabi.

The screening is a partnership between Image Nation Abu Dhabi and the Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC).

It is the third monthly event in the virtual series The Art of Cultural Diplomacy, which showcases how film and visual storytelling can highlight important social topics.

Image Nation will screen more of its award-winning productions throughout the series, including History of the Emirates and As One: The Autism Project, followed by panel discussions with industry experts and leading thinkers.

The event will take place on Zoom at 7pm. For more details and to register, click here.
