UAE’s Cinema Akil launches online platform with free movies to watch

The independent cinema has teamed up with streaming service Mubi

The UAE’s independent cinema Cinema Akil has launched a new service to bring great movies into your home.

It has partnered with on-demand streaming platform Mubi to provide a catalogue of films to watch for free for the next 90 days.

Each month there will be 30 independent movies streaming.

You will also be able to temporarily download the films on your mobile device.

Films are hand-picked each day by the team at Cinema Akil.

So far, films available to watch include 3 Idiots, Journey To The Shore, Ilo Ilo, Our Daily Bread, Om Dar-B-Dar, and VHS Massacre: Cult Films and the Decline of Physical Media.

“We at Cinema Akil, have always held the belief in community and its magical ability to pull together: This time to stay at home,” said Butheina Kazim, founder of Cinema Akil.

“For over a year, Cinema Akil time and time again asked our audiences to follow us into the dark; and when they can’t follow us, we try our best to bring the dark to them.

“During this period that we honour our commitment to protect our community and practice social distancing, we have teamed up with Mubi; the independent video-on-demand platform to bring our audiences three months of free arthouse films (30 films a month) to join them on their screens.”
