Emirates Airline and flydubai plan to resume passenger flights to more cities

UAE airports to be reopened for transit flights

Passenger flights from Emirates Airlines and flydubai will soon resume, with flights to more destinations with connections to and through Dubai.

CEO and chairman of Emirates and chairman of flydubai Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum made the announcement via Twitter, after the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) stated the UAE airports will be reopened.

The NCEMA’s decision to permit the transfer and transit of passengers includes Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport, and Sharjah International Port, and covers Etihad Airways, Emirates, Flydubai and Air Arabia.

“The decision has been made following a holistic review by a number of national authorities, including NCEMA, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, and the health sector,” said NCEMA spokesman Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri.

“As a global aviation hub, the UAE is determined to ensure the application of COVID-19 countermeasures according to the criteria of various international aviation organisations in order to protect the safety of passengers and staff at its airports.”

Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, has been operating limited scheduled flights to nine destinations since May 21, which includes London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Chicago, Toronto, Sydney and Melbourne (subject to government approval).

Currently, Etihad Airways has been operating limited transit flights for connecting flights from Australia to the UK. With the new announcement, movement restrictions for passengers to use terminals will be eased.

WizzAir Abu Dhabi is also set to launch in the capital this year, with the low-cost airline doubling its initial fleet to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Find out more here.
