Abu Dhabi Airport launches smart travel system

A streamlined airport process in being trialed

Travel can be stressful.

There’s lots to remember, from packing to picking up your passport, the there’s checking-in, standing in queues and finding your gate.

Plus, this year, travel is more complicated still, with strict measures in place to keep people safe and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Aiming to make going to the airport a stress-free experience, Abu Dhabi International Airport is trialling a new Smart Travel system.

In partnership with ConvergentAI and powered by artificial intelligence, the new system could help shorten queues and streamline airport processes to make it a smoother and more seamless passenger experience.

As part of the new trial period, all travellers departing Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways will be given an optimal arrival time for arriving at the airport.

These measures should reduce crowding, facilitate social distancing and shorten queues at all stages.

“Innovation and digitalisation are key to the achievement of our vision of becoming the world’s leading airports group, and I am proud of the exceptional work our teams have performed over the past year as we transform our operations and strive to deliver a truly superior and seamless passenger experience,” said Shareef Al Hashmi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports.

“The enhancement of Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Smart Travel system is a significant step in our journey of continuous improvement and innovation as we shape the future airport experience.”

Elsewhere in the airport AI is being used to help guide on ground teams for the best times to unload luggage, refuel aircraft and for security.
