Abu Dhabi Airports launches rapid free COVID-19 PCR testing

Passengers will receive their results in just 90 minutes

Travelling to the capital anytime soon?

Abu Dhabi Airports has announced the launch of rapid COVID-19 PCR testing.

The free PCR testing will be offered to all passengers arriving at Abu Dhabi International Airport – with the exception of transit passengers – and travellers will be able to receive their results in just 90 minutes.

The rapid PCR testing at Abu Dhabi International Airport is available 24 hours a day, every day of the week, and more than 190 members of staff will be on hand to perform more than 20,000 tests per day.

The test results will be shared via SMS and WhatsApp, as well as being available on the Al Hosn app, and passengers can leave the airport once they’ve received their results. If the results are positive, travellers will be fitted with an electronic wristband and will need to isolate for ten days, and then retest once quarantine is complete.

The new rapid testing is part of Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to enhance air travel within the capital and aligns with the comprehensive range of health and safety measures at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

“That we now offer a dedicated PCR testing laboratory within the airport is testament to our commitment at Abu Dhabi Airports to continuously innovate and look for new ways to deliver a safe, smooth and seamless travel experience for all our passengers.

“The new rapid testing facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport, developed in partnership with many of our stakeholders, will not only enable passengers to confidently travel to Abu Dhabi, but significantly enhance the efficiency of our operations while supporting global efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19,” said Shareef Hashim Al Hashmi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports.

Abu Dhabi has also updated its green list and there are now 13 countries that can travel to the UAE capital without having to quarantine (head here for the full list) – passengers arriving from ‘green list’ countries will not need to isolate.

Travellers arriving from all other countries will need to self-isolate for ten days and will also need to be fitted with a “quarantine wristband” – this can be done at the PCR testing tent that’s attached to the airport.
