Bear Grylls survival courses coming to Jebel Jais

Time for adventurers to head to Ras Al Khaimah

Want to get back in touch with nature? Conquer the elements? Drink your own… never mind.

Well now you can do most of those things as Bear Grylls-certified digs are coming to Jebel Jais.

Wannabe Bears will be able to descend on the UAE’s highest mountain as part of a unique outdoor lodging experience that follows in the insects-for-brekkie footsteps of the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp launched in September last year.

Initially featuring nine recycled and redesigned cabins, the destination – devised by RAK Leisure – will offer the ultimate mountain setting for adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts and those looking for remote and curated experiences.

Those bold enough can enhance their stay with thrilling instructor-led survival courses or activities such as mountain biking and climbing, as well as self-guided and instructor-led hikes.

Cabins are equipped with self-catering facilities plus all the essentials (not that real Bears would need them) to make it in the wild, including plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs barbecue tools and toilet paper, while the on-site shop provides further amenities such as snacks and firewood that can be purchased as and when needed.

Accommodation sleeps three adults, or two adults and one child, and the camp is also dog-friendly, welcoming up to two pups per cabin for an extra charge of Dhs50.

Once settled, guests have the option to take part in an exhilarating survival course run by UK experts trained at the Bear Grylls Survival Academy, with half-day (three-four hours), eight-hour and 24-hour options available.

Participants will be exposed to practical and extreme survival techniques necessary to overcome some of the toughest terrain in the wilderness.

While the agenda thrives on the element of surprise, activities may include learning how to make a fire in the wilderness, building emergency shelters, as well as practical instruction on how to use a knife for survival, navigation techniques and extreme weather survival.

Can you Bear it?
Starting from Dhs450 per night per cabin on weekdays and Dhs650 per night on weekends (Thursday, Friday and Saturday). www.beargryllscamp.ae.
