Amerigos

A colourful Mexican bar and restaurant

It’s our first visit to Amerigos Mexican Bar & Restaurant since it had a revamp, and the difference is incredible.

We always loved the outdoor area, surrounded by palm trees and right by the pool. But if we’re being honest, the inside was looking a bit worn and dated.

But not any more, the dining room is now full of bright new furniture and the walls have been freshly painted and decorated with colourful pieces of Mexican-themed art.

Our favourite bit is the neon sign saying “Feed me tacos and tell me I’m pretty”, and it’s safe to say most people visiting this bar don’t get through the night without putting a snap of it on their Instagram story.

Sombreros are scattered on the tables if you fancy getting involved with the theme, and the music is turned up to add to the lively atmosphere.

Despite the new pretty inside area, we still choose to head outdoors and make the most of the cooler temperatures that we’ve been blessed with recently.

We take a seat tucked by one of the garden hedges, and our friendly server is happy to tell us that it’s ladies’ night, which works in the favour of one of us but not the other. Apologies are expressed for the fact that we’ve just missed happy hour (which is from 4pm to 8pm every day, just so you know and don’t make the same mistake we did).

But if you look around other offers are out there, and for ladies the deal is superb. It includes free-flowing Mexican mixed drinks until 11pm, plus 50 percent off food. There are a choice of flavours to choose from, including passion fruit, raspberry, original and peach, and you can also get them frozen or served on the rocks.

On our server’s recommendation we start with the frozen raspberry variety, but by the end of the night we’ve concluded that passion fruit on the rocks is our favourite (but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course). There are more mixed drinks on the main menu, too, although we save these to try another time.

A pot of tortilla chips and salsa keeps us going, although we are very tempted by the towers of nachos being served to our neighbouring tables.

This popular spot is now even better after a freshen up.
