At first it’s a little strange to be getting back out in Abu Dhabi. For months we’d being looking forward to seeing venues open up and meeting up with friends, enjoying drinks and bites and all the rest.
When the time finally comes, arrangements made and reservations booked, we still can’t help but feel a little odd when we venture out.
We can’t be the only ones that found going out, something we previously took for granted, to be a surreal experience. There’s distancing between tables, everyone is wearing masks and gloves, you get a thermal scan at all hotels and even the taxi ride was steeped in safety protocols.
We’re not complaining, we’re glad to see efforts are being made to keep us safe but we can’t help but feel that 2020 can’t get any stranger. Can it?
When we arrive at Blu Sky Lounge and Grill we see something we haven’t seen in a while, other people.
A few tables around the room are filled with friends reaquainting themselves, which makes us feel a little more relaxed. The initial awkwardness quickly vanishes and we settle right in, just like we used to.
Blu Sky may be a Manchester City supporters bar but the sky blues aren’t on the TV today so instead we watch the Premier League relegation battle as we took a look at the menu.
With great happy hour deals, starting from Dhs25, we order a few pints of hops and take those first few sips. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone and the first few drinks after months without are a moment of bliss.
Knowing that Blu Sky makes top pub grub too, we order the Tex Mex chicken burger and a sirloin steak. The burger, with its spicy chicken, guacamole and salsa, hits the spot and the steak, cooked perfectly pink and served with garlic mash and peppercorn sauce is good value for money.
We’re delighted to be back out and about in Abu Dhabi again.
Plus when there are good deals on drinks, top notch food and some sport to watch, we’re not sure it gets much better.
