When you’re away from home, you can often seek out creature comforts that remind you of where you’re from, whatever nationality you are. And for Brits, that’s most likely a local pub.
And happily Captain’s Arms delivers when it comes to replicating watering holes of the UK, with a cosy interior, friendly staff and a cracking pub garden.
The set-up is, admittedly, a little odd, with the garden set among the terraces of several other restaurants (from sports bars to Greek to all-day dining) in the courtyard area of the hotel. But Captain’s Arms is undoubtedly the most popular of the bunch and is heaving come early evening.
The façade of the pub is decked out like a traditional British high street.
Enter through the shiny black door and you’ll find yourself transported from the bright sunshine (or balmy evening) of Abu Dhabi outside, to a cosy, wintery pub.
There are plenty of quiet nooks and crannies and the pub has an authentic feel (albeit a smoky one) with plenty of dark woods and crimson bar stools.
And the prices won’t break the bank either, with a happy hour that runs from noon until 8pm every day, making your drinks just Dhs25.
If you’re peckish there’s a menu of pub grub classics, though we’d highly recommend the pizzas, which are gloriously cheesy with a generous slathering of tomato sauce, spicy, crispy pepperoni and perfectly blistered crusts. Swerve the truffle potato wedges (a reminder that you’re not in Blighty with a packet of Scampi Fries) and go for that pizza and you’ll be happy.
With keen prices, a friendly atmosphere and great grub, this is a top spot to chill in with a pint.
