Dragon’s Tooth

A Shanghai-themed speakeasy at Rosewood Abu Dhabi

Dragon's Tooth

Everyone has their favourites when it comes to places to eat and drink. Sometimes we want something cheap and cheerful, a meal and a drink – no fuss, no major expense. Then there are other times when we feel like getting dressed up, and we want to be impressed while looking impressive as we mingle in the high-end venues of the city.

All the popular nightspots are well known and they regularly draw a crowd but there are still a few sweet spots, offering the perfect experience that some are still yet to discover.

Dragon’s Tooth is one of those.

You could easily miss it, walking through The Galleria Al Maryah Island, and even if you were going to Dai Pai Dong for a meal, Dragon’s Tooth may still elude you.

We like that. It feels like our little secret and although a few floors up there’s a venue called Hidden Bar, Dragon’s Tooth is the real hidden bar to us.

After a busy week, we set out to enjoy a quiet drinks, expertly made in a cool, quiet venue.

When we arrive at the bar, we’re the only ones and that suits us just fine.

The room is small and feels like a speakeasy, with century-old design. It’s chic and stylish, with Chinese adornments here and there to remind you that you are still, in fact, inside a Chinsese restaurant and not a 1920s American watering hole.

What we especially love is that the room is inspired by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Yet another reason to head here, we think.

We scan the QR code (we’re getting used to that) and are immediately undecided on what to order. It all sounds good, if we’re honest. The bartender recommends a mixed drink with infused lemongrass and, well, when in Rome (or Shanghai) and all that.

Our drink is crisp, refreshing and sharp. It’s magnificent.  Next we go for something a little spicier. A mixed drink, infused with chilli… Yes please.

It’s got a kick, but like the last the one, it’s expertly made, looks beautiful and is enjoyed to the last drop.

A few more people filter in the room and with it being so small, we decide it’s time to leave.

It’s been a while since we revisited this little gem, but we won’t leave it that long again.
