In Abu Dhabi there are all kinds of venues to visit for a quiet drink or for a night out. The ‘dress up in your best clothes and enjoy mixed drinks to jazz music’ kind and the ‘shorts and flip flops with a pocket full of dirham coins to play pool’ kind. Plus a whole lot in between.
Easy Tiger is definitely the latter but you can put on your glad rags if you really want to.
We’ve got something of a soft spot for this bar and restaurant out of admiration for its no fuss approach – although the kichen does throw the occasional curve ball on the menu, with innovative choices when it comes to food.
The décor is stripped back, with an industrial feel to it.
When we arrive on a weekend there’s quite an atmosphere in the place. It’s post brunch, a lot of folks seem to have enjoyed it. But as the hours tick on it’s out with the old (as they head home for an early night) and in with the new, like ourselves, out to enjoy a few drinks in a low-key hangout.
There’s always a decent deal when it comes to drinks here and we’re happy to see hops on the happy hour promotion, so we settle in to enjoy a few glasses.
We’ll be the first to admit we’re not the best when it comes to pool but if the table is quiet we’ll happily have a game amonsgt ourselves. It’s when challengers come along we start to get into trouble. The pool table are is usually busy here, but once the crowd thins a bit there’s a spot. Once it gets busieer again, interest picks up and we move to a table.
The music here is eclectic to say the least. During brunch it’s cheesy tunes all the way, and post-brunch on a Friday there’s usually a set from DJ Cliff Townley. The rest of the time there are live solo acts and Premier League games on the big screens to watch.
Hungry, we turn our attention the menu and go for a few chicken wings. There are a few options to try but the Korean versions and the classic buffalo wings are both top notch and go down so well that we order another few baskets.
Wings, hops and a few games of pool is as good a night out as you can get in our book and Easy Tiger certainly has a laidback charm that keeps people coming back.
