We have a soft spot for pubs and bars with a little bit of character.
We’re not talking about elaborate themes, we’re on about venues that are a little worn around the edges.
They’ve stayed the same for years and see a steady stream of people flow in through the doors night after night having stood the test of time.
And in all the years we’ve been visiting Harvesters it has hardly changed a bit. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – as the saying goes.
That said, a fresh lick of paint could benefit the place as it is a little rough around the edges. But if you’re after a fuss-free pub, then you’d do worse than to head to Harvesters.
As a basement bar, and so with no natural light, it’s a little dingy and resembles hundreds of pubs the likes of which you’d find in the UK.
When we arrive on a midweek evening there a few people dotted around the room, some enjoying a quick drink and others having a friendly bit of competition at the pool table.
There’s a decent list of grape, mixed drinks and draught hops, too, as well as a bar food menu with all the usual suspects.
Visit during happy hour – which is a generous one running from 3pm until 2am – for the best value deals.
Pints of hops start from Dhs24, so it’s a decent place to pop into if you’re on a budget. Service is friendly and helpful, and as we sit back and sip our drinks we enjoy the atmosphere. We’re soon relaxing so much we catch ourselves singing along to the pop music blasting throughout the venue.
There’s no escaping it, though, so either get on board or move on elsewhere.
The only thing we’re missing is a live game, but the pub shows sports whenever it’s on, so there are plenty of chances to catch the next match.
A steady choice with a long happy hour that’s worth a visit.
