It’s not often we feel like we’ve really made it, but sitting on the gorgeous terrace outside this swanky bar seems to melt all of our cares away.
Hickory’s is the rather refined venue at Yas Links Golf Club. Inside it’s all wooden panneling and autumnal tones. It’s not stuffy but it is a little formal. Outside, however, things are more relaxed with wicker lounge seating and a terrace that almost touches the Arabian Gulf.
By day, it’s a great place to bring the family and let the kids play. By night, it’s wonderfully atmospheric, especially during the cooler months when a breeze flows by and the reeds of the links sway on the horizon.
The drinks menu covers a lot of ground, especially where short drinks are concerned. As you might expect there’s a good representation from Scotland.
The grape offering is substantial as well, and while we don’t partake, we’re told it’s all good stuff on there. There are a fair amount of draught hops available, and from Sunday to Wednesday they’re Dhs26 for a pint between 3pm and 9pm.
Full price drinks come in at around the Dhs40 mark, and there are also more than enough hot and soft drinks available.
There are a few big screens inside showing sports, though this isn’t your usual sports bar.
In fact, the crowd is usually slightly older here most of the times we have visited.
Service is great, with friendly staff who know the menu and what the deals are by heart. Drinks arrive swiftly, too, as does the bill when we request it.
We love the old-school feel of the interiors here, and a seat at the central bar, chatting to the smart bar staff makes us feel like we’re in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. While we’re not at Gatsby’s level of luxury, we feel like it for the short time we spend at Hickory’s. We’ll be back.
