As we speed upwards to the 36th floor, we’re not sure what to expect from the Friday Rhythms night at Jazz & Fizz.
Offering unlimited amounts of tapas-style sharing plates and house beverages for Dhs150, it seems a reasonable deal.
We’re given a warm welcome as we enter, including a shout out from the band’s singer.
We’re offered a table by the stage or one with a city view, and we opt for a spot that comes with a perfect vista of the skyline around us.
The menu is full of traditional and contemporary mixed drinks, plus a wide selection of grape, bubbly, premium beverages and a few international hops.
But tonight we are going for the Friday Rhythms package. We’re already sold on the idea but our server still points out that as one mixed drink costs around Dhs50, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth on food and beverages.
There’s a good choice of classic mixed drinks, hops and grape included in the package, and our first round arrives quickly.
The mixed drinks are expertly made and our opening platter of bar bites is brought to the table soon after.
The avocado hummus with multi-coloured bread sticks goes down a storm, and we’re also big fans of the spicy bruschetta and maki rolls on the second platter. The fig muffins provide a slightly unusual mix of sweet and savoury flavours, but we ask for seconds of the sweet potato fries and tempura shrimps.
Each plate is explained to us as it’s brought out, and you can reorder as many times as you like.
The servers are attentive and keep our drinks filled throughout the evening. At no point do we have to struggle to try and grab their attention.
The music is chilled and provides a pleasant background soundtrack. It’s not too loud and it means conversation is easy.
