We’ve watched on as others have worked their way through every flavour of Loca’s signature Mexican mixed drinks on its Wednesday ladies’ night, which has basically become part of our weekly routine.
So we felt it was about time to refresh ourselves on what the lively hangout has to offer during the rest of the week.
This Mexican bar is notorious for hosting some of the most popular nights out in the city, playing a brilliant mix of retro
and current tunes, for having a buzzing bar area and, of course, those legendary bowls of guacamole.
The outdoor terrace just happens to be one of the top places in the city for watching the sunset, too.
We’re visiting on a Monday to try out the all-you-can eat Mexican street food deal, which also includes unlimited amounts of grape, hops and Mexican mixed drinks for Dhs185 a head.
We’ve arrived fashionably late, so we’re excited to start gorging ourselves on salsa and cheese as soon as possible (well, we deserve a treat, right?).
We slide into one of the soft green leather booths, though there are plenty of stools around the bar, and tables outside if you’re feeling more like an alfesco evening.
Highlights of the food include the guacamole, the kingfish ceviche and an edible cactus dish (mainly because everyone wants to be able to say they’ve eaten cactus).
There are also enchiladas a, a couple of sweet desserts and loads more authentic dishes. It’s really more of a Monday-night party brunch than popping out for a few nibbles.
The acoustic tunes from the musicians keep the vibes chilled and everyone in high spirits. Our servers are friendly and quick to offer us more drinks when they spy we are running low. For those not going for one of the deals, there’s a good happy hour and plenty of grape and hop options.
