We decide to stop in Sorso after a meal in The Ritz-Carlton one evening. Walking past there is a sign outside promising the screening of that night’s big Premier League game, so we dive in.
It’s not your usual sports bar, that’s for sure. The interiors are all dark wood and leather, the lights are low and the atmosphere is serious and grown-up.
It’s midweek, late, and we’re the only people inside. It doesn’t matter too much, though if you’re after a crowd to watch a match with, this probably isn’t the place to be. If you want a quiet night cap and a place to chat with friends while glancing at the big screen every now and then, you’ll find much to like.
Staff are good. Quick to serve and offer options for drinks, and the menu is filled with a good array of shorts, mixed drinks and grape. Hop fans are served by pretty standard bottles.
Prices are average for such a bar but there’s a happy hour deal between 7pm and 9pm that offers two-for-one on a decent selection of drinks.
Sorso feels much more like a late-night bar than an early evening one, but if you were to stop in before dinner, that happy hour deal certainly makes it good-value and the venue is a great meeting place for groups of friends.
If you want something to eat there are also a few fancy bar bite options. Think chicken croquettes, crab cakes and wagyu sliders and you’re on the right track.
This is a very slick, cool place that ticks many boxes – a lounge bar showing sports with decent deals and a good range of drinks (and nice nibbles, too) but, on the evidence of all of our visits, it just needs more of a crowd. We think it deserves one.
